With a mix of sadness and warmth in our hearts, we gathered to celebrate the life of our cherished Lodge member Gloria Garibaldi.

Gloria was a remarkable person who brought joy into the lives of so many.  She deeply loved her family and friends, and lived every day of her 98+ years with compassion, integrity, wit, and a good sense of humor.  Gloria was a member of Sons and Daughters of Italy for over 43 years.  Our hearts are broken but her spirit lives on in all of us.

On October 13, 2025, our Lodge hosted a special screening of the film "Made in Italy" (2020) starring Liam Neeson at the Cameo Cinema in St. Helena.
 

It was a SOLD OUT show where people stood in the rain (pioggia) to get in. 





Along with the movie, our guests enjoyed savory Italian dishes including arancini, antipasti skewers, prosciutto palmieri Italiano, sausage and zucchini.



Grazie mille to Suzanne and Mark Roomian, Toni Weems, Lia Cicuto, and Joel Kurtz (among others) for putting in such an outstanding effort on the wonderful food boxes.



Pairing perfectly with the tasty morsels on offer was Nichelini Family Winery's Primitivo and Emmolo Wines Sauvignon Blanc!



The food and wines were a hit!! And for dessert, people savored Roman Holiday’s incredible gelato!





Lodge No. 2077 could not be more grateful to Cathy Buck and the Cameo Cinema for providing us a space where we could all come together for a fun evening!

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, St. Helena Lodge No. 2077 co-hosted* Festa Italiana in St. Helena's Lyman Park.  *The word "co-hosted" is a gross overstatement, because in reality our Lodge member Anthony Micheli (with a little help from his amici) put the entire event together.  Grazie mille Anthony for another job well done!!

Lodge 2077 helped with visitor check-in and shared information about the upcoming "Made in Italy" screening at the Cameo Cinema.



The food crew worked tirelessly to feed 750 people over the day (crowd size is estimated).



But ultimately, this was a great community celebration of Italian heritage bringing people of all backgrounds together for great food, wine, and friendship.

At the September 3 meeting, St. Helena Lodge No. 2077 honored Lynn Lawrence-Murphy for having received the Vincenzo Sellaro Award at OSDIA's national convention in August.

Leading up to the ceremony, we enjoyed a delicious ravioli dinner, and were pleased to have Grand Lodge First Vice President Mark Rossi and Grand Lodge Recording Secretary Lori Rossi in attendance.

Following dinner, there was a brief video presentation about the life of OSDIA founder Vincenzo Sellaro, and Mr. Rossi spoke eloquently about Dr. Sellaro’s dedication to the Italian American community the significance of the Sellaro Award within OSDIA.



To mark the occasion, Lodge 2077 presented Lynn with an engraved crystal vase and flowers.

On August 30, 2025, we met our fratelli e sorelle from Napa Lodge No. 2043 for our Second Annual Bocce Tournament at Veteran's Memorial Park in Yountville, California.

 

The competition was fun with St. Helena edging out Napa to retain the title for another year, however, everyone who came was a winner because of the camaraderie and fantastic food and wine everyone brought to share!





As an added bonus, Joel Kurtz made cannolis for the crowd!



You won't want to miss the Third Annual Bocce Tournament next August!

We enjoyed getting to know Migliavacca Wine Co. at our al fresco lasagna dinner on July 23.

Ray and Marge Centanni hosted us at their beautiful property where Katie Migliavacca (owner) and Vin Traverso (winemaker) at Migliavacca Wine Co. explained the history of their winery and poured their wonderful Sangiovese, Vermentino, and Rose.

Their wines were enjoyed paired with a delicious lasagna dinner, garlic bread, salad, and best of all Linda Green's incredible desserts!

Everyone is already looking forward to doing another one of these dinners next summer!

Our June meeting honored this year's scholarship recipients.

In spite of the heat, we gathered for a BBQ dinner on June 11 to honor Kaligh Geitner, Gemma Hanna, Michelle "Le Le" Hanna, and Claire Kellogg, each of whom graduated from St. Helena High School and were the recipients of St. Helena Lodge No. 2077 academic scholarships.  Congratulazioni!

Many thanks to the members of our scholarship committee (Elaine Montaine-Watson, Lynn Lawrence-Murphy, Mary Sue Frediani, Toni Weems, and Sharon Scott) for all of their work in reviewing the applications and selecting the winners.

Dan Beltrami, Mark Battuello, and Tom McKeever did a great job manning the BBQ, so grazie mille to them and to everyone else who helped out in the kitchen!

Thanks also to those who donated items and bought tickets for our raffle to raise money for the scholarship fund!

Venice was our focus in May, featuring a presentation by Ray Centanni about its history and glass art traditions.

To round out the experience, we were also treated to a delicious Venetian-themed dinner with seafood pasta, squid ink pasta, and asparagus.

And last but not least, in May we celebrated Sharon Scott's 40th anniversary of joining St. Helena Lodge No. 2077.

Who doesn't love limoncello?

At our February meeting, we learned about a multi-generational family tending a lemon orchard for over a century on the Amalfi Coast.

Following the presentation, Piper Cole of Colebrook Kitchen taught a class in how to make limoncello.  It was a little messy, but everyone had a blast!  The limoncello will be ready just in time for the hot nights of summer.

At our May meeting, Joel Kurtz and Toni Weems showed us how to make our own fresh pasta. They did an absolutely fantastic job!!

Joel and Toni gave us valuable tips on how to make and knead the dough, how to use a pasta machine, and how you can substitute a rolling pin if you don't have a pasta machine.  Members then got to try their hand at making their own, after which they enjoyed the product of their labor with three different sauces! It truly was fun and delicious

In addition to Joel and Toni, many thanks to those who loaned their pasta machines (Suzanne Roomian, Stan Brody and Kennedy Brooks), those who worked in the kitchen (Debbie Polverino, Richard Uychek, Nelson Aceto, and Toni -- in particular, Nelson deserves credit for saving the Alfredo sauce), and those who provided desserts (Sharon Scott and Roberta Oswald).  And of course, Grazie Millle to all who helped with the clean-up (particularly, Bill and Deanna Harrison, Tom McKeever, Mary Sue Frediani) - we did manage to make kind of a mess.  Last but not least, Dan Beltrami deserves thanks for making extra pasta for those who preferred not to do their own, and for Mary Sue for delivering the care package to Paul Supplee, who could not join us because of illness.  Thanks to all of you!!
